Caraz / Huaraz, in the Cordilla Blanca where Caraz is a small village and Huaraz the big city, both provide some nice tours and good views of Huandoy and Huascarán mountains.
Lago Parón, 32km on a narrow, rough road, up to 3700m, where around the deep-blue colored lake you have good views at various snow capped mountains.
Yungay, Campo Santo, the place where the old village was washed away by a mudslide in the 1970 earthquake.
Llanganuco lakes.
Chavín de Huantar: a fortress temple of the Chavín culture, main attractions are the marvellous carved stone heads and designs in relief of symbolic figures and the many tunnels.
Look for the big plants of Puya Raymondi in the area.
Willkawain, Huari ruins, large structures in where you can visit the inner chambers if you bring a torch and Monterrey, where you find thermal baths.
Both from Caraz or Huaraz you can start some interesting hikes, like the 4 days Llanganuco or the 12 days Cordillera Huayhuash.
