Introduction

Festival of Qoyllur R'itiOne of the most interesting festivals in the Andean region, where the indian people from all around arrive to worship the APUs (mountain spirits) and do their ceremonies and dances.

Itinerary

Below you can find a day-to-day description.

day 1  

leaving Cuzco by bus to the village of Mawayani, a long ride but with beautiful views. There will be a lot of pilgrims on their way so you have a lot to look at. Camp in Mawayani.

day 2  

Mawayani - chapel of the SR of Qoyllur R'iti

 

a 5 to 6 hours walk uphill, with lots of time to take pictures of all those people carrying their stuff up there.
In the festival place you can walk around, enjoy the dances and ceremonies or even climb more, to the glaciers.

day 3  

chapel - Mawayani - Cuzco
this is the last day of the festival. People have danced all night, there is a last mass and then the walk down.
In Mawayani you get on the bus back and arrive in Cuzco late that night.
