LARES QUECHUAS

CODE: hike-08
Program: 4 days / 3 nights
CIRCUIT: Lares – Huaran - Cusco

In this hike you walk between 5 and 7 hours daily. Always at altitudes, having fantastic views at snow capped mountains and beautiful lakes. You meet local people who like a small talk and camp near their houses.

Itinerary:

1st day: Transfer by bus to Calca (1½ h) and then Lares ( 3 h).

Start the walk in Lares, about 4h slowly going up, through a beautiful valley, to the village of Concani at 3750m. First there are a lot of trees in a green valley but rapidly it changes: when reaching the camp you hardly see any tree.

2nd day: Concani – Kishuarani

Start with about 2-3 h climbing to the pass Kkochuyckaza at 4240m, passing the lakes Huillke and having fantastic views at some glaciers and the mountain ridge of Urubamba.

After 1½ h going down we reach the small village of Kishuarani (3670m), passing the lake Queñacocha, where you often see Andean goose.

3rd day: Kishuarani – Canchacancha

From the camp to the waterfalls is about 1½ h, through the valley and climbing the last part to pass the waterfalls and reach a beautiful lake. You climb 2½ h more to the pass Pachacutec (4420m) and see the glaciers of Pitusiray and Sawasiray mountains. Then it’s all going down to the campsite in Canchacancha in about 2 h.

4th day: Canchacancha - Huaran – Cusco.

Along the river all walking down to Huaran in the Sacred Valley (2830) in 3 h. From there transfer to Cuzco.
